At present, U glass offers a fire integrity of 30 minutes, but no thermal isolation, therefore it is unsuitable for escape corridors, compartmentalised areas or locations with FD30 fire doors.
Definition of fire integrity and thermal insulation for glass walling:
- Fire integrity is the length of time the wall will remain stable in a fire.
- Thermal isolation relates to the time it takes for significant heat to transfer from the side of the fire through the complete glass block. The level of heat coming into contact with people is critically important for the purpose of an escape corridor.
For 30 minute thermal isolation glazing see: TF30.
